Dear Parents and Carers, We express our deepest sympathies for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her dedication to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and to her other realms and territories is unparalleled and we thank her for her service. Our school will observe the mourning period whilst continuing to support our Learners, families and staff. Unless otherwise stated, please assume any scheduled activities and events we have scheduled will continue as planned. We will observe the national holiday scheduled on Monday 19th September for Her Majesty’s funeral, which means schools will be closed that day, but outside of this, school hours will continue as normal. Our school will be keeping Learners informed of news about these events as part of class activities. If you think your child may be experiencing particular upset due to the passing of the Queen, please do let us know so we can provide additional support if needed. Thank you for your understanding. Yours sincerely, Mounir Meghalsi Head Teacher

Updates and information can be found on the Local Offer website page here - https://www.localofferbirmingham.co.uk/home-to-school-transport/home-to-school-transport-news/ Travel Assist Opening Times during the Holiday During the period 20 December 2021 to 3 January 2022 inclusive Travel Assist will provide telephone support between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm on working weekdays. Outside of these hours please contact Travel Assist via email [email protected].
At the moment, we plan to run Home to School Transport as usual from the first day of term in January, however, please continue to check the Local Offer website for news and updates on the service in case of further government changes to COVID rules or school closures. Home to School Transport - Severe Weather Information In the event of severe weather conditions (e.g. snow, storms, floods) it may be necessary to either change or cancel Home to School Transport arrangements for safety reasons. Wherever possible, operators will attempt to operate unless safety concerns deem it not feasible to do so. If a school has not already announced its closure, then it is an individual driver's decision as to whether they can operate or take a certain route, as they are the only responsible party who is aware of all the facts. Contractors must inform Headteachers and the Travel Assist of their decision immediately. It is vital that they put the safety of the students first and this means that we cannot insist that the transport runs, or that a child or young person is taken directly to their home if there is no safe route available. If you are advised by the transport company that your child's morning journey has been cancelled, you should assume that the afternoon journey will also be cancelled, unless you hear otherwise. Parents/carers who have chosen to take their children to school during bad weather should ensure they have confirmed return transport arrangements for their child before leaving them at school. Contractors will not be expected to transport a child taken into school by a parent home if an assessment considers an afternoon journey inoperable. Transport is arranged to run at set times and therefore if a school decides to close early due to adverse weather, it may not be possible for transport companies to arrive earlier than normal. Therefore, the school will need to ensure that students are supervised until they are collected. If a parent/carer does not want their child to attend school during bad weather they should contact the transport company to inform them at the earliest opportunity. In bad weather conditions, parents/carers are advised to regularly check the City Council and the Local Offer website and to listen to local radio. If parents/carers suspect that the school is closed but there is nothing on the website or the radio, they should contact the school directly before travelling. Parents/carers should also contact the school if they are unable to travel due to bad weather, but the school is open. Travel Assist will publish information on the Local Offer website here - https://www.localofferbirmingham.co.uk/home-to-school-transport/home-to-school-transport-news/ and ask schools to send messages to parents and carers where possible. With Kind Regards, Rachel Edwards Communications & Engagement Lead SEND, Wellbeing & Inclusion |

Dear parents/carers, Following the announcement by the Government, we are now in a national lockdown and all schools will be closed from Tuesday 5 January until at least February half term. Over the next few days we will be finalising arrangements as we move to remote learning whilst remaining open for key worker / vulnerable children.
We will be open for key worker children and vulnerable learners only. Any families who think they qualify for key worker places should contact us and we will confirm places as soon as possible.
We will be updating parents via the website and text messages / emails as and when we have more information to share with you.
Our pastoral team will be in touch with parents and carers regularly to ensure that you receive potential support you may require.
Prioritising placements for vulnerable children We will utilise our own internal systems such as risk registers/assessments to determine those pupils classed as most vulnerable; these children will be allocated a space as a matter of priority. Home learning We are committed to ensuring that we continue to support you and your child in their education within the home setting. Our pupils access learning in a variety of ways and we will endeavour to provide sufficient opportunities and resources that are inclusive for all during this period of absence. It is crucial that you inform us of any challenges around home learning and we will ensure prompt support and resolution. We already have provided remote learning for all our leaners and will continue to improve that provision therefore we will continue to update our website with learning resources over the coming weeks.
Further important information We are unable to eliminate the risk of transmission within our school although we can all play our part in reducing the risk. By accepting an allocated space, you are deemed to agree to the following points:
This was not the start to 2021 that we were all looking forward to and wishing everyone a Happy New Year seems rather redundant at this time. We will be open throughout this lockdown and will available to try to help and support all our families during this time. Take care and look after yourselves and we look forward to seeing you all again once we get to the other side of this. Kind regards,
Mounir Meghalsi |

Dear parents, We have been trying very hard to find ways to keep our school open next week, but unfortunately, we will have to close due to health and safety concerns. During the last couple of days, the government has released various messages around tier 4 measures, and we have been working with education leaders across the city, as well as unions, to assess the situation and make this decision. We will be closed to all learners on Monday 4th January 2021 until Monday 11th January. The school will be open to staff, and we will contact some parents (safeguarding register and children of key workers) to offer them a place for Tuesday 5th January. We haven't taken this decision lightly, but due to the lack of clarity of information nationally and the uncertainty around staffing and impact on our risk assessment, it is the safest thing to do for all involved. Thank you for your support and patience. Kind regards, Mounir Meghalsi Interim Headteacher |

Calthorpe Academy will be closed for Easter Holidays from Friday 3rd April 2020.
England's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty and Dr Jenny Harries, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, have both stated that cases could peak over Easter Holidays. We believe that social distancing will be more important than providing child care over Easter.
